The lotus-effect is a natural phenomenon which could be observed on the surface of the lotus flower leaves and refers to the high water repellent they exhibit. Small dirt particles are collected by the water droplets themselves thanks to a complex microscopic Nano structure of the surface, thus reducing the adhesion.
At first sight lotus leaves seem as if they are completely smooth. However, they are covered with Nano structures, forming tiny air bags, on which the liquids flow down without penetrating the surface, thus leaving it completely clean all the time. This turned out to be a surprise to the scientists working in this sphere, since until recently they have thought that only a smooth surface could be clean.
This natural phenomenon has inspired Nano technologists to develop such a technique which using the same Nano structures forms hydrophobic coatings with a self-cleaning effect.
Our practice shows that Nano coatings are extremely effective products providing sufficient and long lasting protection. The treated materials are visually impaired and at the same time protected against the negative influence of the environment.
If the repellent effect degrades, it is probably due to dirt. In this case the surface should be cleaned with a non-aggressive detergent and abundantly rinsed with water. After that, the self-cleaning effect should be restored. In case that the Nano coating has been damaged, then you could easily restore the effect by applying it again.
